2019-20 NBA Draft Notables

By Lamar Battle

Here are Drop Step’s choices for the impact players in this years NBA Draft.

Let’s start with the top two obvious choices.

Zion Williamson:

The Skinny:  The consensus number one pick and potential can’t miss transformative star.  Incredible size and athleticism combined with the requisite amounts of dog, unselfishness, charisma and a white hot desire to win.  6’7″ 285 pounds with a 45 inch vertical jump.  What’s not to like?

JA Morant:

The Skinny:  Do not be fooled by the size of his school (Murray State)  He has been favorably compared to De Aaron Fox (speed) and Russell Westbrook  (explosiveness) and he averaged 24.5 ppg at 49.9% shooting and 10.0 assist per game.  Ja checks all of the point guard boxes and only time will tell if he is made of legendary stuff.

Darius Garland:

The Skinny:   Son of ex NBA player Winston Garland has been compared favorably to Damian Lillard and has been moving up the draft board with a quickness.  The 6′ 2″ guard shot 63.9% from the field. Any more questions?

DeAndre Hunter:

The Skinny:   Versatile and long wing player who made his name during the NCAA Final Four where he led the University of Virginia to their first National Title.  DeAndre hit big shot after big shot and displayed an ability to guard all five positions.  (Shoots 48.3% from the three) Note to Chicago Bulls, if you miss on Garland draft Hunter and do not screw this up.

P.J. Washington:

The Skinny:  U Of Kentucky player and forward with probably the best post up skills in the draft. Very confident and aggressive.

Bol Bol:

The Skinny:  The son of NBA player Manute Bol is tall 7′ 2″ and like his dad really skinny,  however do not sleep on this player who shoots over 40% from the three and is a superior shot blocker.. If you must miss let it be on a seven footer.

Carsen Edwards:

The Skinny:   Excellent three point shooter distinguished himself during the NCAA tourney.  best shooter off the dribble…Think Fred Van-Vleet.

Ty Jerome:

The Skinny:  Tough minded guard with championship (Virginia) experience. Could contribute right away for the right team

Zach Norvell Jr:

The Skinny:  Former Gonzaga and Simeon High School product who is an uber-confident player who is aggressive and shoots well from the outside.  A winner for sure.

Cameron Johnson:

The Skinny:  North Carolina product and a swing man with size and three point shooting.  The level of coaching received at N.C. cannot be over estimated.

Dylan Windler:

The Skinny:   Three point shooter and (tourney Stand out) would fit on most teams in today’s game.  What I didn’t know that he was 6’7″
